The scholarly collection “SCIENTIFIC HERALD OF TCHAIKOVSKY NATIONAL MUSIC ACADEMY OF UKRAINE permits the use of artificial intelligence tools and AI-assisted technologies only provided that the principles of academic integrity, transparency, proper authorship, and full human responsibility for the content of the submitted material are observed.

 General provisions

AI tools may be used in preparing a manuscript as auxiliary means, but they may not replace the author’s scholarly responsibility, independent research judgment, or proper source citation.

Responsibility for the accuracy of facts, the reliability of conclusions, correct citation, the lawfulness of the materials used, and compliance with publication ethics rests entirely with the authors.

 Permitted use of AI

An author may use AI tools, in particular, for:

  • language editing and stylistic improvement of the text;
  • technical structuring of the material;
  • auxiliary translation;
  • preparing auxiliary working materials at the research stage;
  • analysis or generation of materials, if this is directly related to the subject of the research and is properly described in the article.

The use of AI does not relieve the author of the obligation to independently verify the obtained result.

 Mandatory disclosure of AI use

The author must inform the editorial office about the use of generative AI or other AI tools if they were used to create, substantially edit, translate, analyze, interpret, or visualize material submitted for publication.

The declaration should specify:

  • the name of the tool;
  • how it was used;
  • the stage of work at which it was applied.

If AI was used only for minor linguistic or technical editing without affecting the content, a separate declaration may not be required.

Prohibited use of AI

The following is not permitted:

  • listing AI tools as an author or co-author of the article;
  • assigning to AI responsibility for the content, conclusions, or novelty of the research;
  • submitting AI-generated text, images, tables, musical examples, or other materials without verification and proper disclosure of their origin;
  • using AI for fabrication, falsification, substitution, or concealment of data;
  • using AI in a way that violates copyright, confidentiality, or the rights of third parties;
  • citing generative AI as an independent scholarly source.

AI and authorship

Only a human may be the author of a scholarly article. AI tools may not be indicated as authors, co-authors, or persons responsible for the content of a publication.

All decisions regarding the research concept, selection of material, analysis, interpretation, and formulation of conclusions must belong to the author.

 AI and illustrative materials

If an article contains images, diagrams, audiovisual, or other materials created or substantially modified using AI, the author must:

  • clearly indicate this in the text of the article or in a note to the material;
  • inform the editorial office about how they were created;
  • confirm the lawfulness of using such material.

If AI-generated material is the direct object of the research, this must be explicitly stated in the manuscript.

 Use of AI during peer review and editorial consideration

Reviewers and editors should not use external AI tools to process manuscripts if this may breach the confidentiality of the submitted materials.

Uploading manuscripts or substantial parts thereof to external AI services is not permitted without appropriate confidentiality guarantees and without editorial permission.

Manuscript evaluation, preparation of the review, and the editorial decision must be carried out by a human.

Response to violations

Undisclosed or unethical use of AI may be grounds for:

  • returning the manuscript for revision;
  • suspending editorial consideration;
  • rejecting the material;
  • retracting the article after publication if the violation is identified at a later stage.

Each case is considered individually in accordance with the collection’s policies on publication ethics, plagiarism, and retraction.

 Final provisions. Submission of material to the collection signifies the author’s agreement with this policy and confirms that the author bears responsibility for the content of the submitted text, including any materials created or processed using AI.
